Voices From The Great Depression

The Stock Market crash of 1929 marked the beginning of what later became known as The Great Depression. Lasting until the early 1940s, it was the largest economic calamity the United States has ever experienced. As each year goes by, fewer and fewer witnesses are alive today to talk about their experiences during that time.

Thanks to the The Washington University Digital Gateway, a project has recently gone online called The Great Depression Interviews, that contain a variety of interviews of people from all walks of life describing their experiences.
