The World’s First TV Commercial, 1941

I think it’s safe to say that people hate most commercials that appear on TV with some funny and entertaining exceptions. The first “legal” TV commercials appeared on July 1, 1941, roughly 2 months after the FCC granted licenses to do so. Three years before this, NBC experimented with some “illegal” commercials during a Brooklyn Dodgers game. Here, the first TV commercial, also for a televised baseball game in New York City and at a time when only 4,000 TV sets were in New York City households, Bulova, a clock maker, aired the first commercial.

More on the commercial here and here.
