The Mars Opportunity Rover Turns 10
In 2004, NASA sent two rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, to the Martian surface and had a mission time estimated to last 90 days. In May of 2009, the Spirit rover became stuck in soft soil and efforts to free the probe were not successful, although it continued to perform stationary experiments from the surface. Full contact with the probe ended on March 22, 2010. However the Opportunity rover continues to perform scientific experiments to this day and has recently made some very important findings.
