Andrei Linde First Hears Of Scientific Breakthrough Proving His Theory Of Inflation

Today was a very big day in the history of astrophysics. After decades of work, the theory of inflation was essentially proven by the discovery of “space ripples” in the fabric of space-time. I won’t go into more detail than that here, as you can learn more elsewhere. But here is a great little video of Andrei Linde (Harald Trap Friis Professor of Physics at Stanford University and the founding father of inflation, the theory about the bang in the big bang) being told for the first time about the discovery proving his theory correct. While many people were deeply involved in today’s announcement, it was Linde, in 1983, who first theorized the most popular variant of inflation, chaotic inflation.
