Live Nuclear Weapons Testing In The Nevada Desert

Starting in 1951, there were a total of 928 nuclear tests in the desert at the Nevada National Security Site. Many of these tests included troops being on alert at a “safe” distance to view the detonations. In this film, troops sit in fox holes and tanks, trucks and dummies are positioned closer to the blast site in order to study their effects from the explosion. I would be very interested to find out what happened to these troops later in life and whether their health was directly affected by the blast’s radiation. Read more
