I think the United States exhibition at the 1967 World Expo is an example of “they don’t build them like that anymore.” The Montreal Biosphère was designed by the legendary architect and designer Buckminster Fuller. Despite a damaging fire in 1976, the structure still exists today, despite a tendency at Expos and World Fairs for pavilions to be dismantled afterward.
Compare that with the Soviet Union’s pavilion at the same Expo.
